Work Life!

"They Paved Paradise and put up a parking lot!"

One of our most productive wind tunnels at work is in the process of being slowly cut away.....not sure what the thinking is....it produced well, I understand it even made money at time....but the Government decided to close down several facilities...this was one of them. They work all day every day slowly cutting away letting it fall to the ground with a bang.  They have a machine below that cuts it into smaller bits, and it's put on a truck and hauled away!!

When they are done, the area will be used as a parking lot! I must admit, parking is at short supply, but to tear this down seems so sad.  I guess we can say this is the end of an era....let's just hope it also is a beginning of another!!  After over 30 years out here, I guess the 'old dog' in me is fighting with the 'new tricks'!

Update:  Here is the front (last 2 pics above) less than 24 hours (and 2 inches of rain) later!!

Note: The tree is still there, just taken from a different view!

Gone Fishing!!

"A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work. "

Jess came down Monday on spring break from Vet School at VT, and my Dad took her and I fishing for the first time this season at Camp Yeopim in NC!!

We didn't catch a lot of fish but it was a great time... as always....Jess got some "boat therapy" as she likes to call it...and it was a beautiful day!!

Daddy with one of his brim!
 The turtles seemed to be enjoying the beautiful day and sunshine....they were everywhere, sunning on logs and peeking up at us from the water!!

Tiny Turtle!!  There were 3 here but the other 2 were camera shy!

Jess did catch a small bass!! She had so much fun!!  She 'set the hook' and he flew into the back of the boat!  She put him back so she could catch him again when he's all grown up!!

We called this our Heron Log!!

Just a shot of the main creek......we call this place "Bassy!"

More Bassy photos!

Hovering turtle?!

It cooled off considerably and Jess was trying to keep warm!!!  :)

Yesterday we visited the local nursery and bought a few plants for both of us....she now owns her house and has a place she can finally plant some fun things she can watch grow...she even got a garden flag!!

We had a great visit and she is heading back home to hubby in Blacksburg already!!  Thanks so much for the visit Darlin'....had a great time!!

Now it's time for me to go Back to work!! : (

Beautiful Day for Gardening!!

“When the world wearies and society ceases to satisfy, there is always the garden.”

I finally got a chance to work in my gardens today....it was such a beautiful day!!

Hubby (Junonia Jim) even helped me do the weeding and the mulch spreading..aren't I lucky!!!!  I had waited too long, and ended up breaking some of the stalks, but now it's ready for all the new bulbs to come in!!

Nothing new except the double daffodils...they are very neat, they come in yellow then turn into a salmon color after they bloom fully!!

 All the ducks and birds are beginning to gather together "2 by 2" and there is romance in the air!!

Double date?

Families of Finches!

It's a family affair everywhere!!  Even families of flowers!! :)  I love the springtime, everything is fresh and new, and there is so much to look at and enjoy.....just make sure you take the time to do that!!

Happy St. Paddy's Day!!

I haven't updated in a few days and wanted to keep everyone up to date....the birds are getting more active everyday...I expect we're going to start seeing some nesting going on pretty soon.....birds, ducks and geese!!

The finches are just starting to get their summer plumage and hubby is very excited that his new feeder is working so well!!

See the beautiful colors?

I added some oranges on the fence hoping to entice some orioles...not sure if they will come here but figured it was worth a try!!

Will have more pics of flowers in a couple of days and plan on working in the gardens this weekend so I won't be so ashamed of them!! Busy week so not much to report!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't let this day go by without mentioning our sweet puppy who left us one year ago today.....there is an emptiness here that will never go away, and we think of her daily....we miss her terribly and will never forget her!!
More Spring!!
"It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold:  when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade."  ~Charles Dickens
