Scallop Day!

Hubby and I decided it was time for some much needed R & R, where better than a trip home? Spring has not really arrived yet at our home up North, and we had grown tired of low 40s at night, Florida has been calling to us. It is beautiful here, (surprised?) and low tides are in the evening, so how does an early dinner, followed by a slow stroll on the beach sound? Glorious to us! We got a little later start than anticipated, but still got a little over an hour to enjoy the 81 degree temperature.

Today must have been Scallop day. The beach was loaded with live scallops, they were slapping their shells together all over the place and tumbling in the light surf. I love to watch these guys....they weren't as active as they sometimes are, but if you watch this video closely, you will see them clacking and spitting!

They were all over the place!

It's amazing to me how they are so different on each side, nearly every one had one side that was very colorful...
...and the other is almost always pure white!

I thought this one was beautiful, it was different than the others as it was a deep maroon, on both sides!

This orange one was awesome too...

This sea star was enormous, and was cleverly hiding just under the surface of the sand...

We found a few little treasures.... like this pear whelk, I'll post our finds tomorrow....
Tomorrow is officially the full moon, but it looked pretty full to me....

The Gammaw in me cannot resist the opportunity to do a little bragging! Joseph is 2 months old today, and decided to give his Mom a little gift of sleeping through the night last night....for the first time! What a great gift!

....what kind of day will tomorrow be? Stay tuned for more adventures!

Super Moon and Super low tides!

“May you have warm words on a cold evening, a full moon on a dark night and a smooth road all the way to your door.”~Irish Blessing

It was too cloudy to get a good shot of the "Super Moon" but the tides still knew it was there! We had really low tides and the sandbars came out.
We started out the day with more relaxation, it seems we are all getting pretty good at it now! Jess and I went to the pool for a little while, then onto the beach under an umbrella.
The pool must be salt water, all you have to do is lie back and float! No floats necessary!! Awwwww!

Low tide wasn't to be until 8:30 so we had lots of time to relax before an early dinner at Sanibel Grill. We started out digging with Brad where we ending last night but a storm was threatening and I wasn't getting anything so I decided to venture out and find another place 'closer to home.' Hubby had also decided to look for a new place. The 3 of us ended up in different places digging and Brad remained the victor with the original place. Hubby however came home with 3 alphabet cones!! I just found a few minis and wore holes in the end of my gloves!! Seems I got greedy too soon!! ;)
Brad's Finds
Most of an angel wing, paper figs, sharks eyes and a gaudy nautica!
Olives, tulips and murex oh my!
Hubby's finds...3 Alphabet cones...REALLY?!

Hubby's Olive was HUGE....as big as a 'standard' sized paper fig!!
I did walk a little and found this HUGE sand dollar in the tidal pool, of course I carefully put him back after his photo shoot!

This sea star was taking a stroll through a tidal pool and was the subject of many pictures by passers by, he was only about 5 inches across and seemed to be in perfect shape!

Jess, Brad and I are going on another adventure on today, hopefully we will have a lot to post for tomorrow!

Full Moon!!

"May your time be filled with relaxing sunsets, cool drinks and sand between your toes"

Good morning all!!  We had an early dinner in the Condo (Steaks on the grill !!) yesterday so we could stay out and enjoy shelling the low tide, and it was great!! I'm sure it was because it was full moon last night!! It certainly paid off! The sand bar came all of the way out and the water was so clear!!  There must have been millions of hermit crabs running around in the new formed tidal pool, it was such fun....so much space, so little time!  We saw live olives for the first time!!  Sorry I didn't take my camera, but maybe I can find one when I do have my camera to show you...I believe it is Olive season!  It's always such an adventure to see to the gulf floor we even saw a pod(?) of rays!!  Dolphin came in toward the beach...I wasn't so lucky with the camera this time, but they are such fun to watch from the Lanai!!

Yes Jess you are right Mimosa was what I was trying to remember, it finally came to be late yesterday afternoon!!  You win the prize!!....

We had a large group of shells, I was up late getting them ready for their viewing this morning!! I thought of you Daddy, there were at least 3 crabpots to dig around!! Not much fun to do by myself so I need you to come down and help!! :)

I took more pics of the tropical flowers....not sure of their names so I made up my own!!
