Another Beautiful Day Fishing!!

There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind.  ~Washington Irving

Went fishing with my Dad again yesterday, and what a blast it was!! We headed down to his fishing cabin in North Carolina first thing Saturday morning! It was a beautiful day, with just a little chill in the morning, beautiful warm midday, then chilly in the evening.  We usually fish for Largemouth bass, and his freezer is very thin these days of bass since we haven't had the best of luck, but this day was going to be different.... we hoped!!  Daddy fishes topwater baits, and I always fish under the surface with worms or lizards, and it is always a little bit of a competition....that he ALWAYS wins!! The first time I won, was in about 1989, the final score was 8 to 1!! I will never forget it!!

Yesterday, wasn't that good, but it wasn't bad!  We 'hung into' 18 bass!! We put 10 in the boat...unfortunately only 3 would pass the 'limit' (which is at least 14" long)....and those 3 were caught by me!!  Daddy caught 5 white perch, which are also good eating, so it wasn't a 'skunk'...but I still beat him in the bass catching which is quite a feat..2 times in nearly 52 years!!

We had so much fun....we had several more strikes, and saw a couple of good sized ones that got off.  What a lot of fun it was!  We were tired by the end of the day!!

This is my first catch of the day!

Daddy always hangs a red ribbon, where we catch one to take home! There is another tree down there with 2 more on it, 2 bass same spot!
Wild Iris
Never seen white ducks....but if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...it must be a duck...right?

Massive Osprey nest!

Same nest from afar!

Same nest...up close!

red-headed woodpecker....there were a dozen of these guys chasing each other through the woods, couldn't really get a good pic...this has full zoom, so it's not very clear, they were fun to watch!!

More faces in the cypress knees....I even see some fingers....do you?  All the bass were caught by the 'trees and knees' as we called it...where the cypress trees grew in the water surrounded by knees!

  1. That osprey nest looks really precarious! I think that tree is going to topple over any minute.

  2. I caught my first Bass when I was about 6 years old, and I haven't caught one since! You had quite a nice catch, and 2 more to boot!
